As cat lovers, we understand the importance of grooming our feline companions daily. That’s why we’re constantly searching for brushes that not only make this task enjoyable for our cats but also effectively remove loose hair and reduce shedding.
We’ll go through all the brushes we’ve purchased on our journey to find the best ones for our short-haired tabby cat. We’ll discuss the characteristics of each brush and what we like or dislike about them. let’s start!

1. Wahl Cat De-shedding Glove
Manufacturer’s characteristics: Soft silicone material, secured at the wrist by Velcro straps, and made with breathable mesh material.
The de-shedding glove is effective for removing loose hair after you’ve used another brush, such as the Furminator. Initially, my cat was scared of it; whenever I put it on, he would run away. We had to slowly show him that it was safe. As for its de-shedding capabilities, it does the job, but you typically need to use a different brush before using it. Moreover, it’s a nice way to give your cat a massage. However, it’s not easy to clean. We still use it from time to time.
2. Wahl Extreme De-shedding Cat Rake
Manufacturer’s characteristics: Long curved teeth designed to reach deep into the undercoat without scratching the skin, made from strong, flexible polycarbonate material, and featuring an ergonomic comfort grip gel handle.
The handle of this brush isn’t the most comfortable. However, it effectively does the job and removes a significant amount of loose hair from the undercoat. We used it to brush a long-haired cat, and it worked just as effectively.
3. Wahl Small Cat Slicker Brush
Manufacturer’s characteristics: Stainless steel bristles with angled tips to prevent scratching the skin, complemented by an ergonomic comfort grip gel handle.
The fur sticks to the grip handle material, requiring it to be rinsed with water for cleaning. However, in terms of grooming performance, it excels, effectively removing any loose hair and helping to maintain a healthy coat.
4. Hartz Fur Fetcher
Manufacturer’s characteristics: Micro combs designed to remove three times more fur, paired with an ergonomic handle.
There’s just something about the sharp plastic tips that seems uncomfortable for my cat, even with very gentle pressure, perhaps due to the unusual noise it makes when gliding over the fur. Furthermore, it didn’t efficiently remove much hair.
5. Furminator Dual Grooming for Cats
Manufacturer’s characteristics: Features metal bristles on one side and soft boar’s hair bristles on the other, paired with an ergonomic nonslip handle.
This brush is expensive and doesn’t do much in terms of grooming or removing any loose hair. It doesn’t do the job at all, despite its high price tag, making it a poor investment for grooming needs.
6. Petgravity Cat Brush with Water Tank
Manufacturer’s characteristics: The bristles are of a unique conical design, made with premium silicone material, allowing for a combination of grooming brush and wipes.
This brush helps remove loose hair, and with the water tank added to moisten the wipes, it prevents floating hair from dispersing. It’s a good alternative for cleaning your cat’s fur. While we don’t use it daily, it does an adequate job when grooming, but it can leak if not placed correctly.
7. Furminator Undercoat deShedding Tool
Manufacturer’s characteristics: Stainless steel deShedding edge for safely and easily removing loose hair and undercoat, with furejector button to release hair with ease, all complemented by an ergonomic handle.
It removes a lot of loose undercoat hair more effectively and quickly than a regular hairbrush. You don’t need to spend a lot of time using it. However, you have to be gentle on your cat’s sensitive areas, such as the neck and tummy, as it is a bit heavy. Overall, this is one of the best on the market and does an excellent job.
